Since its inception in 1976, DeLoach has been crafting true-to-type Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, and Zinfandels from the renowned Russian River Valley. During the 1990s, the creation of a lower-end, varietals-based line of wines boosted a double-digit percentage expansion of the winery. After forming a recent partnership with the large Burgundian negociant firm, Boisset, the DeLoach family has decided to refocus on the production of high-quality, terroir-oriented wines.
In that respect, the new
owner hired veteran winemaker Greg Lafolette (of Flowers and Tandem fame) as head winemaker.
As more and more Californian wineries are turning "greener" in the vineyards, so is DeLoach vineyards. The team at the winery is
converting vineyards to biodynamic farming, which limits the use of artificial fertilizers or fungicides, and replaces them with natural, sustainable farming practices.
It is an exciting time for DeLoach winery, and I expect that the quality of the wine produced will improve tremedously in the next few years. |
Wines Offered: The winery currently has three different wine offerings with the basic California range of varietals, the O.F.S (Our Finest Selection), and some vineyard-designated wines.
Marc's selection:
- Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley: Packed with intense spicy, cacao and berry flavors. The palate is soft and voluptuous, and has a good grip and
a long and balanced finish.
