The Unti family has been making wine in the Dry Creek Valley since 1997. George Unti maintains the vineyards and Mick Unti and Sebastien Pochan make the wines.
The Untis specialize in red varietals, focusing on Rhone, Italian, and Zinfandel grapes. They have a real respect for old-world winemaking traditions, which shows in their farming and winemaking style.
Some of the vineyards (they farm 60 acres) were recently converted to biodynamic farming. In the cellar, Mick and Sebastien usually start with a cold soak and use only native yeasts. They are very careful in their
oak selection (utilizing mostly used barrels and French oak) to emphasize the grape and terroir potential.
The wines, particularly the Syrahs, are interesting examples of the exceptional Dry Creek Valley terroir for producing southern European grape varietals. I believe that Unti vineyard can be considered among the top Dry Creek Valley wineries. |
