Michel-Schlumberger winery venture was started in 1979 by a Swiss-native, Jean-Jacques Michel. Jean-Jacques loved Bordeaux wines, and so decided to focus (like his friend Tom Jordan, owner of Jordan Winery) on the Bordeaux varietals. The wines, orginally labeled Domaine Michel, were made in a traditional style and demanded some aging time to show their true characters.
In 1993, Jacques Schlumberger became the owner of the winery, and the label was changed to Michel-Schlumberger starting with the 1991 vintage. In 1997, the vineyards went through an overall replanting due to phyloxera. With all new plant material and high quality clones, the future wines should definitely be worth trying. |
